The Neo-cons and Old-cons led America to War
The Neo-cons were determined to reshape the face of the Middle East. The Neo-cons
naively believed the war with Iraq would be quick and decisive. Deaf to the voices of
opposition, the Neo-cons sold the need for war to the American people.
The military voices expressing caution were dismissed. The voices of the press were
more interested in talking about the possible war than investigating the justifications
being presented. The Congress failed to ask the tough questions before granting
authority to the President for war.
The Old-cons were repetition, exaggeration, fear and patriotism. (Flag waving) After
911, the country was vulnerable to the misuse of a call of patriotism. Some citizens
wanted to get even, some believed Saddam Hussein was responsible for 911, and
understandably, many wanted to support their President and their Country.
(Patriotism)
Don’t expect the Neo-cons and this Administration to admit that the war in Iraq was a
blunder of historic proportions. Although many Republicans have distanced
themselves from the President, some Republicans and the Neo-cons will always
support the President and his rationale for going to war in Iraq.
Time will identify the winners (yet to be determined) and the victims (still counting)
from the war in Iraq.
The Military complex is a clear winner as a result of the Iraq war. The victims are far
too many to calculate. The long-term damage to American families, with fallen heroes,
and the image of America thoughout the world is difficult to calculate.
How many times can the Neo-cons be wrong before the American people stop
listening. Dick Cheney took the lead in selling the need for war. He has been wrong
on all counts yet, he calls those who speak out against the war background noise.
The President claims to be spreading democracy around the world while, our
Democracy at home is foundering. We need honest dialog and citizen involvement to
preserve our Democracy. The American Flag belongs to all of us.
