Citizen Journalism
Journalism is the act of collecting, analyzing and disseminating news and information. There are many forms of journalism.
Print and broadcast media are often associated with civic journalism or the professional journalist.
The first journalists were citizens. Citizen journalists are important to a democracy. The citizen journalist can write a
rebuttal to stories that are not factual or lack additional relevant information.
The Internet Blogs are a great place to write opinion and analysis of stories in the mainstream media. How do people without
formal journalism training become a citizen journalist? You have to read and write to gain the needed skills.
I encourage everyone to write letters to the editor of their local newspaper. Use the written word to express your views.
Practice critical thinking! Listen to both sides of every issue! Investigate all the facts available and the possible consequences
of every decision.
