Governed by Fear
It is time for new leadership—one capable of leading with a National Vision of hope and optimism. We are a
Nation with a history of overcoming fear! We have always been a Nation of hope and optimism.
Our Nation under the Bush Administration has been governed by fear for far too long.
By now the majority of American citizens get the message that our self-proclaimed decider, King George, is
above the laws of our nation. President Bush and Co-president Dick Cheney answer to no one—least of all
the American people. After all, the American people weren’t elected and, they have no political capital to
spend. As the most powerful Nation in the world, we don’t need to lead a free world’ by saber rattling!
It is time for leadership with respect for our Constitution and the Bill of Rights. Leaders who govern by fear
have no place in a government of the people, by the people and for the people.
It is time for leadership with the courage to speak out against spying on the governed without probable cause
and the necessary warrants.
It is time for leadership with the courage to reinstate the Writ of Habeas Corpus. It is time for leaders with the
courage to ban torture and secret prisons.
Leaders who seek to solidify their power with more control over the governed have no understanding of a
democracy or the will of the people.
We need leadership willing to demand accountability from those in government who have mislead the people
and waged a war of choice for personal gain.
We need leadership with a vision of hope for American workers—all American workers. It is time to act on
border security. We can have our secure borders, and an immigration policy with a transient workers
program that works. We need leadership with the will to solve the security and immigration issue. We need
and I want leaders who have visions of hope and optimism.
Where are our leaders willing to solve the health care crisis in America? It is time for leadership with a vision
for a health care system that includes coverage for all of our citizens. Leadership that knows where the
dialog ends and action begins!
We are beyond listening to hollow campaign promises. We need leadership committed to solving issues.
Rhetoric on moral values is no-longer believable! We need a leadership that leads by example and
commitment to reasonable and attainable goals.
Our Founding Fathers took great risks and many lost everything to defeat tyranny and give birth to a great
Nation. I hear new voices of courage speaking out against the abuse of power but, the voices are still a
whisper. It is time for the America people to reclaim their democracy and hold their leaders accountable. We
have an obligation to help preserve our democracy for future generations.
Many of the abuses of power as written in the Declaration of Independence by Thomas Jefferson are again
being perpetrated on the people of this Nation by this President and his Administration.
It is time for accountability. It is time for the electorate to demand performance from their representatives, and
to let them know that this government will remain a government of the people, by the people and for the
people.
No great society has ever been sustained when governed by fear. It is time for a Nation governed with hope
and optimism!
